Our Action:We have been collecting signatures for the past few weeks to show we have gained support among students and faculty on our campus. Below you can see the signature count. We wanted to inform anyone who did not fully understand the cause we are fighting for. As you can see under the reactions section, many people's first responses was to ask if lack of unisex bathrooms was actually an issue. To inform people we made and printed brochures. We also used the LGBT and women's resource centers on campus to help spread the word, distribute brochures, and help get signatures.

Our most common question: Is this a real issue? -YES!! Laughter? Yes, most people we asked did give us some sort of chuckle, giggle, or laughter. Why? because naturally we think that the topic of bathrooms is funny or comical. This is a real issue, and to some people a very serious issue, so no need to laugh! The most shocking: One student said that transgender students should make their own choice on which bathroom to use rather than making the university add a restroom to make them feel more comfortable. The above statement is extremely disconcerting, as no one, regardless of gender identity or expression, should have to go into a restroom in which they don't feel safe or comfortable. |

Be Inspired ...Take Your Own Action What Others Have Done: Ohio University is one university that took action on this bathroom issue. This excerpt is directly after Ohio University LGBT center website: "Single User Restrooms: Several years ago the LGBT Center worked to make restrooms on campus more accessible to transgender students, faculty and staff, as well as others who wish to use a single user restroom. There are currently over 30 restrooms on campus that are not gender specific, however many of these have limited access The restrooms that have been converted are single user restrooms with a lock on the main door or new ones created in renovations or new construction. Below is a current list of the single user restrooms. Efforts continue to increase the number of single user restrooms in academic and administrative buildings." http://www.ohio.edu/lgbt/resources/singleuserrestrooms.cfm
